  • Prices are increasing all over Turkey, not just for christmas! Anyone with sterling is a winner at the moment but ordinary Turks are suffering.Drinks and food in the cafes and restaurants are still incredibly good value so everyone coming to Kalkan will be made very welcome and treated fairly. There are a number of places open, so enough choice for anyone staying over the xmas/new year period.

  • Considering in the '90s there were so many noughts on the banknotes, you had to count them before buying anything, quite a way.

  • Wouldn’t buy in a falling market. Current consensus seems to be “complete lack of confidence” (in the Turkish lira). If you’d bought £500 worth last Monday you’d have got 3375 lira. Today you’d get 4277 (isbank rates). Still dropping, so next week? Wait till it stabilises or starts going back up.

  • You actually cant get any in UK at its current rate...we've tried everywhere. You can get it for 7TL to the £ though from a few sites.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

    • Sezkalkan: Holly - you may be better off starting off a post under 'general discussion' on the right hand side, but generally the weather is great in October - mid 20's with plenty of sunshine. Maybe the odd bit of rain, but doesn't normally last too long.  A little cooler in the evenings, so pack a pashmina.  It seems very safe. All of us Kalkan nutters hvae been coming all year and more than once too!  Go for it
