Antler's Bags are Out of the Attic....
« on: August 14, 2011, 08:40:51 PM »
Just 10 days to go until the Donny flight to Dalaman. This is the best bit - the anticipation.  Bags are down, immodium is ordered and I have packed the cycle clips as extra precaution. Cycle clips with shorts?  Well, I will be on holiday....

I rang Adam and told him people are complaining about the lack of light eating dinner at his restaurant.  Suggested he served more carrots. He assured me he has bought some new "down lighters". Will take a torch just in case.

Have had some lovely PM's from people returning from their Kalkan holiday, and expressing so many good times have been had.

It will be strange walking ACROSS to the Market, rather than up to it. I hope they have 37inch shorts.

Speak soon from The Other Side,

Antler

Thanks for your comments. Just one week to go......

I was away on business in Norway last night and the double expresso stopped me from sleeping. All I could picture, led in bed at 3am today, was being sat at Table One (top terrace, far right hand side, looking out towards Meis) at Adams Restaurant for lunch. Down below, the boats were doing their daily visit to Kaputas Beach.....and it all seemed so real. I keep thinking the bubble will burst and I may not get there......

Fingers crossed!

Antler

We're out on Sept 5th, counting the days too. I won't sleep before long either as I mentally pack and repack my suitcase, which incidentally my OH craftily never put back up the attic after our July visit but left them in the spare bedroom as he was determined to go for a second visit. On inspection he didn't even completely unpack his case, left all his Kalkan clothes in there, now if that's not a hint I don't know what is  ::) Have a great time Antler, look forward to your reports to get me even more excited, if that's possible!!

Clara 50, that's a pretty good hint - leaving your Kalkan clothes in the case!  Good Man!!

Sorry we fly back on September 5th, so will  miss you. This time we cannot keep  our accomodation on beyond late morning, so will be "evicted" only to be saved by Adam picking us up for lunch at his. There, I can have my last bottle of Lal - and that incredible view. .

Not quite sure why I am thinking about my last day before I even get there.....?!

I will soon stop shaving, so that I can head to Jasmine a week this Friday, our first day. And on Saturday night, we have made our reservation at Cafe Leon for dinner, only to be followed the next day with Captain Osman on Yildiz.

I'm not even sure I can get into my shorts.

Aaaaah,

Antler

I hope you have a lovely holiday Antler.

We go tomorrow for 10 days and I cannot wait. I'm sat here at work shivering with excitement and checking out the duty free perfume, make up, booze, in flight snacks, entertainment etc in the in flight mag on line. I've already spent lots of virtual money on myself never mind my OH and kids!!! Ooh, just like you I revel in the anticipation of my hols. Especially to Kalkan as it's been 2 yrs since we were here for our first time.

If you see a (new) handbag carrying, sweet-smelling, make-up slid off in the heat, looking woman,(hopefully clean if the water's now ok, if not new duty free perfume will mask the smell!) dragging two 2 sulky young ladies and and a husband checking his wallet and tutting, on your travels around Kalkan. Please say hellooooo!

Antler, is Table One the best at Adam's or just the one you first sat at and therefore you think of it as "your table"?    I have not yet been to Adam's but have it on my list - clearly people enjoy it and looking at photos (many taken by you) it has a wonderful view as well as a warm welcome.    So if I manage to get there next month should I ask for Table One?  And will I get an especially warm welcome if I mention you?

Well, Tortoise Lady, you will get a special welcome, for sure, as that is so typical of all these lovely people in Kalkan, and especially, with Adam and his family. Just mention "Steve & Anne" and Adam will know who you mean. You can see some of my EK posts, apparently, as I gave hime some in frames and he has put them on the wall!.

It may not be called Table One, but it is a speacial table, on the highest terrace, on the far right hand side, next to the wall and closest to the sea. It's a bit "Shirley Valentine", just you, the table and an incredible view to the island of Meis.

Take some mozzie repellant if you go, for your ankles, as they tend to get you especially there.

One of our favourite meals there is the Mushroom Saute to start (or fried chicken livers with a hint of Chilli) followed by Stuffed Aubergine with mincemeat, or Lamb Shank, or one of their sizzling dishes.

Then, may I suggest you grab a nightcap and go and sit on Adam's ottoman and watch the stars......before he runs you back into the village (I take it you have his mobile number?)

You will be so glad you came...so glad you came....!

Cheers

So the first three days have been planned  and there is a chance we may stick to it!

Friday 26th - after a late start:

-  breakfast on the terrace, followed by Pedicure and Massage for Mrs A, Shaves & Haircuts for Ollie and I at Jasmine Coiffeur (Mehmet was shocked when I called his mobile just now to book his 'n' hers 11.00am slot). That should kick-start the holiday!

- Adam to pick us up at Jasmine and take us along to his for a (light) lunch

- late afternoon until sunset by the pool at Sun Elite

- 21.30pm dinner booked at Mussakka Harbour  (NOT Table 31!)

Saturday 27th:

- breakfast on the terrace and a day of R & R by the pool

- lunch at.......................wherever

- 19.30hrs - Turkish Night @ Cafe Leon

Sunday 28th:

- a day at sea on Yildiz II.

Then, we go with the flow........!

Not meaning to make anyone feel jealous, of course!!

Cheers

Antler

aaaah it all sounds wonderful, Antler.
I found Jasmine this year after a recommendation - wonderful pedicure plus foot massage (an hour and a half + necafe for an incredible 30tl ;D)
Have a great time  ;D

hi antler . i know the apartment location well, a fab place to stay. but i dont know where Adams place is at all. can you share this information and give telephone number if possible. it sounds like a "must do" on my list when i and my husband and son and his partner come out 17 september. on count down and suddenly, having booked months ago, there is all the jobs to do at home .on the one hand not enough time to get everything done at home and on the other a Whole three weeks before we travel and am so looking forward to being back in kalkan. For the first time we are staying at kalamar bay so we will get plenty of exercise this holiday, or  maybe not as the taxis going back in the evening will be just too inviting.

have a great hoilday.
