Why does the mossie truck do it's rounds just as I've settled down for an Effes on the roof terrace ;D.
Avon sss and citronella tealights keep the blighters off, English mossies seem to like it though make a bee line for me as soon as I get back into our garden, (have ponds and live by a creek)

What Mosquitos?

We have just got back from 2 weeks in Kalkan. We hardly saw one, I came back without a single bite and the worst any of our party of eight suffered was 2 or 3 bites over 2 weeks.

Just returned from Kalkan with my Avon Skin-so-Soft unopened. I didn't see any mosie's this time round in Kalkan.
Last year it was a problem, but it would seem they have cleaned up there act.

Me too returned with NOT ONE bite.....will be taking my Avon skin so soft with me again when I go - but hopefully the little blighters have been well and truly controlled for this year - it was an amazing difference....as others have noted - more mossies back here than there - where are the ghost(mossie) busters in purple with their backpacks for all that stagnant water down here in the south of england.... ???

It wasnt the mozzies that got me it was the dreaded Olive flies. Thay were a bit late arriving this year because the weather was sooo hot.

it's a little tiny black thing..about the size of a pin head,it gets in your hair whether head or arms ,legs etc,and spends it's time nipping ...they are really annoying, normally they are more about in early may...they are not nice!!! >:(

Perhaps the little devils are too hot with all that blazing heat
and gone off somewhere cooler & wetter - may be they are making their way to the UK

The Olive Flies tend to attack male heads because they have shorter hair. My wife was not affected by them. My head was like the Alps after two weeks with the pests!!

Interesting reading this thread, we were in Kalkan the middle two weeks of June and nearly everyone in our hotel was getting badly bitten - except me, with my Avon Skin So Soft! It really did seem to work.
But those of you posting recently and seeing no sign of mozzies - they must be doing something right out there ! Perhaps it's too hot even for the mozzies! Was just warming up while we were there, our last two days were very hot but the rest of the time was just pleasantly warm.

I used an aftersun cream from Boots last year that contained insect repellant and never got a single bite.  It didn't smell too bad either.  I think it was this one http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1081039&classificationid=1027856  It's £6.99 but it's BOGOF on all the Soltan stuff at the moment  :)

It seems only 'sweet-smelling' [to mozzies, that is] people attract them.

As one of those I have suffered over the years and nearly OD'd on antihistamines to try and rid myself of the itching.  Now I use Sin Kov, wait until they bite and then take APIS MEL at 4-6 hourly intervals to reduce the itching and swelling.  And it works for me.  This is a homeopathic remedy available from most chemists in UK.  Haven't tried in Kalkan as I take it with me.  Hope it helps.

Also find to alleviate the itching and swelling Aloe Vera - always buy a large tube from Holland & Barratt especially when on offer, its very good for sun burn etc - infact swear by it

I always have an aloe vera plant on my kitchen window sill so if I burn myself I can just snap a bit off and put the sap directly on to it. Natural yoghurt slapped on to sunburn works in an emergency and if the chlorine in pools turns bleached hair green use tomato puree of ketchup to get rid of the green!!! Anymore natural remedies or hints?

I too have suffered the dreaded Mozzie bites and have had an allergic reaction so will definitely give the Avon products a go. We used Deet in June and whilst I did get a couple of bites it did seem really effective. I cant remember the exact web address but I think it was called Nomad Travel. They did have buy 2 get 1 free but not sure if that offer is still on.
