Hi Phillip yes there are areas like that but that is where the sharks wait for the tourists  ;D
Seriously though the beach at Kalkan is good but sometimes shelves steeply - Kaputas on the way to Kas is good but take some shade and drinks - Patara is lovely and shoals for ages but can be an undercurrent,But as with anywhere with water - just be carefull and don''t go rushing at it
So maybe bring some water wings with you

I can''t swim at all but I quite often go and sit on the town beach, make a "seat" in the pebbles on the slope down into the sea and let the waves just wash over me - very refreshing on a boiling hot day!

well if she wants to strike out for Cyprus she might meet one! hahaha  Friend of mine on a diving course saw a Barracuda just outside Kas.
I wouldn''t shake hands with one of those either.

What are the boat trips like for poor swimmers, are there sometimes places that are suitable or would they be a waste of time except for the views ?

Boat trips are great - coz as long as you are not nervous of deep water - they provide steps down the side of the boat so that you can get in at your leisure and pace - you don''t have to take a running jump from top deck like my son..!!  Do give it a go - they are tremendous fun!!

Cheers!

Do try the boat trips it is into deep water but just float around the edge. Ask or better still before you go on the trip buy a spaghetti foam thing to help you stay afloat. And if you cant even do that hang onto the ladder and cool off.

Just to add the beachclubs are into deep water, although I have heard some one say there is one into shallow water. Again the float will help, you can wrap them around the waist, sit on them, hold on to them etc,no one will bat an eye. I always have mine with me for back up although I can swim dont always feel confident out of my depth so with my trusted spaghetti I spend hours in the water. I love the sea so would be so unhappy if I couldnt cool down in the clear blue sea. Oh and just to add the only sharks are on land and mainly around Blackpool.

Like Holidayfever, I can swim but I''m neither confident or have an aptitude for it so the spaghetti float that connects into a hoop is a godsend. No need to feel embarassed about having one, loads of adults use them and a good idea to take one with you on a boat trip so you can enjoy the sea along with everyone else. Palm Beach Club does have a little section where you can walk into the sea - there are some beds and parasols there but they prefer if families with very young children use them. It''s not a problem for adults to use this area to either get in or out of the sea but it''s very rocky so you need those rubber shoe things ;)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

If you aren''t a strong swimmer I wouldn''t recommend Patara or Kaputas as both have strong currents- but ok if you just want to paddle. The Kalkan beach, whilst having the ''shelf'' is quite easy to swim- you may want to wear beach shoes though. As for beach clubs, as well as Palm Beach, the Kalkan Beach Park and Kalamar Beach club have some easy access points, where you go through shallow water rather than access straight into the deep water.
You could also buy one of the noodles/ spaghetti floats which will give you extra buoyancy in deep water, many people use these so you won''t look silly!
