Electrical expertise/recommendations needed!!
« on: February 15, 2018, 11:46:12 AM »
While in our apartment at the end of last season my lovely husband managed to kill our hob while using some kind of toxic drain cleaner to wipe down the top (I’m sure he does these things so he is never asked to clean again!) we have a hob to replace the trashed one however at the time this sent the whole apartment live - we got a shock when touching the washing machine drum which is on another floor. It was on the last day we were there and we reset the electric which seemed to resolve the issue however this has got me thinking there is an obvious problem some where as the trip should have kicked in. Any one had anything like this before? Could anyone recommend an electrician to fit the hob and look into this for us?

The electrical system here is very different to the UK. My OH is a retired electrician with huge experience both in the UK & abroad yet unless its a very simple problem here he will not touch the wiring system. Advise if you have a maintenance manager they contact a qualified electrician to deal before renewing your hob. You then with luck will not end up with lots of taped off wires & cables

Thank you, DRBD, We do not have a maintainance manager, hoping someone can point us in the direction of a local electrician!

Have pm'd you.

Why are queries like this which may be of interest to the wider community now replied to by pm? If I’m looking for an electrician I have to post again. If you have found someone reliable just say so. It’s not advertising just a recommendation, just what this site used to be all about.

Caradog ... I have not recommend any electrical trader to this enquiry I have just sent a message which would not be of any interest to anyone else on this forum, you have not, I can assure you missed out on any information. After what I think is your rather rude comment I wont bother again to advise in future.

Maybe ask in the Arclik shop and hopefully they can advise.

I agree that looking for a professional electrician is the right approach and do not touch any wire!!!

If I understand the issue description properly, it seems a ground (earth) problem. If the new hob and/or the electrical appliances have ALL the ground wire correctly used, it should not happen. Even if the appliance is new, it doesn't mean that it has been correctly wired to ground. Humidity and/or water leakage near the wires can also cause the same issue.

It could well be an earth wire problem. Our apartments, built approx 1995, were built without earth wires. We had all sorts of problems before getting a Turkish neighbour to contact an electrician who then put in an earth wire. Unfortunately I don't have a contact number for the electrician but I think it cost us about £70 at the time which was about 6 years ago.
