Heated Swimming Pools
« on: August 04, 2018, 05:19:14 PM »
Can anyone please advise how easy it is to change an outdoor private pool into a heated outdoor private pool. Also, whilst I realise the cost will depend on the size of the pool, a ball park figure for an average size pool on a four bedroomed property would be appreciated.
Kind Regards...

We looked into this about 8 years ago.

If you are planning to use an electric heater the unit is quite compact and installation very simple. In effecting it is a tube containing a heater that you insert into the water filtration system.

There are two issues with this type of installation:

They use a lot of power we were recommended a 24kw unit for our 9mx5m pool, unfortunately our villas wiring couldn't provide this so we didn't pursue the matter any further.

If you do have the power they cost an awful lot to run, electricity is expensive in Turkey and from memory we were told it could cost around £30 a day to keep the pool at a useable temperature during the Easter break.

If you intend to use it for weeks on end it might be worth considering a heat pump system, these are much more expensive and more complex to fit  but can cut the electricity bill by 75%.

The ‘tube’ system is akin to heating your po with a kettle, it’s That expensive, we know, we had one 😩

We now have an air exchange system which is fantastic and reasonable to run, albeit, it cost £6k supplie and fit.

Hi Onelove. What system did you purchase and who did you use to install the heat exchanger? I am wondering about purchasing in the UK, given the current exchange rate and the fact that most models will be imported. Interested to hear of your experience.

Thanks for the info Atlanj / Onelove..............
Air exchange would appear the way to go. I’m assuming this system is not readily available locally so will look into setting up over winter.
Does this system add much to an average monthly electric bill, I know you mentioned reasonable running costs Onelove, but just trying to get an overall picture of costs.
Thanks again...
