THE BUS TO ISTANBUL
« on: September 24, 2010, 10:02:33 PM »
Just wondered how often the KamilKoc? buses go to Istanbul? If so how long does it take, how much would it cost and do they travel over night?

They leave daily at 7pm - cost is 70TL / 85TL depending which one you travel with
Arrive at Essenler [the BIG bus station] in Istanbul around 9am the next day
Usually a free transfer bus to SultanAhmet - the tourist part of the city
Pamukale buses now have individual film screens in the seat backs complete with internet and USB access and DVD plus the usual tea / coffee etc
It's a good experience

Not sure I would classify it as a 'good' experience, certainly an experience.  We were told to book the front seats on the opposite side to the driver for the view, well it was dark all the way, so no view and the barrier in front of the seats meant you couldn't stretch your legs under the seat in front so I ended up with very stiff legs.  There are a number of breaks on the way so you can get out and move around but they also disrupt any sleep.  Not an experience I would want to repeat, I would fly in future.

Having done many a long distance bus trip I would advise definately not to book the front seats. I spent a very long journey to Cappadocia feeling it was my duty to keep an eye on the driver / icy road! Anne you were wrongly advised in my opinion;-) . Try not to book the seats behind the loo / exit as these have limited space.
Having said all that if you have the time the bus trips are an experience worth doing, if you are on a two week holiday and limited on time probably best not to.
