KAPSA info centre and Clinic wish list
« on: April 27, 2012, 12:57:49 PM »
As many of you may know (especially those of you that follow us on facebook) we at Kapsa are very excited about our new project. We are setting up a new veterinary clinic which will also serve as a Kapsa information centre. Up until now we have always worked with private vets in both Kalkan and Fethiye.  Despite being given a discount because we are a charity this still proves to be very costly. Also frequent trips to Fethiye are expensive and time consuming and can cause unnecessary stress to the animals involved.
We believe that we can significantly reduce our treatment and neutering costs and accomplish far more in the long term if we were to have our own clinic with a veterinary surgeon working with us.
We also feel that having a Kapsa information centre will enable people to contact us easily; we will be able to give more information about the work we are doing to both locals and tourists alike. We will be able to offer guidance, information about neutering, responsible ownership and taking animals to the UK etc. We also hope to be able to find homes for far more animals too.
We have been actively looking for the right person but it has been surprisingly difficult to find an experienced vet willing to come to a place as small as Kalkan. However, we have recently found a good veterinary surgeon that would like to come and work with us. He is young and enthusiastic, but probably most importantly, he is very keen to work with both street animals and pets alike. He also speaks good English. It has also been quite a challenge to find an appropriate property for a clinic.  We have at last now secured premises so it is full steam ahead.
Although we want the clinic to be well equipped obviously the less money we spend the more we can keep for treatment, neutering and general welfare of the street animals. For this reason we are asking everyone we know whether they could help us to fit out the clinic/info centre. Of course we don’t expect people to have specialised veterinary equipment lying around but there are so many other things we will need too.
 Here is the list of things we require so far;

Office style desk(s) 1 or 2
Chairs
Table and chairs
Fridge
Shelving units
Cupboards
Signs
Aircon unit
Ceiling lights
Table light
Notice board
Fan
Kettle
Wastepaper bins
Dustbin
Cleaning equipment
And – believe it or not!! A kitchen sink (Unit)

We have already had a computer donated to us - so that is an excellent start. We have also been offered an X-ray machine by a very generous veterinary clinic in the UK, now we just have to work out how to get it over here!!

If you think you may be able to help with any of these items please send us a pm with the details, thank you.
If you would like to make a monetary donation to us for veterinary equipment we still have collecting boxes in many businesses in Kalkan or you can transfer money straight into our UK bank account, the details of which are:

UK:  Lloyds TSB,  Pride Hill Branch, Shrewsbury , PO Box 1000, BX1 1LT
Sort Code:  30-97-62 Account Number: 00259909 Account Name KAPSA

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We will keep you updated with our progress.

With the landlords help (and he is being very helpful) we are making good progress. The internal examination room partition walls have gone up and will be painted today all being well. The door is being made. Plumbing for the examination room has been sorted and sink unit etc has been chosen.
We are waiting for news from the UK about the Xray machine - there is a good chance that a transportation company may even bring it over here for free (we are waiting with baited breath!!) Fingers crossed!

Good news the clinic is now up and running! We still have quite a few more items to get but the powers that be came from Antalya last week to inspect and, although the licence will take a week or so to arrive the vet Hasan was given permission to start practicing and has already treated a number of animals. We have had a fantastic amount of equipment and veterinary supplies donated by WVS (Worldwide Veterinary services) visitors to Kalkan have also been very supportive some have even given up valuable luggage allowances in order to bring things to us from the UK. Many people have received donations in the form of supplies from their own local vets in the UK. We are still trying to find the best way to the X-ray machine and processor over here that was donated to us by a veterinary practice in Surrey, and we have someone bringing us a very smart microscope next month that has been donated by another UK vet.
Although there is no signage yet the clinic is situated on the Market/Belediye rd on the left just after the mosque.

As for the Kapsa information centre - we are busy preparing photos, info, boards, files etc in the hope that we will be able show people exactly what Kapsa is about, what we do and why!
We will let you know when we will be up and running asap.

We would like to say a huge thank you to ALL the people, businesses and organizations that have donated so generously to our new clinic. We have had absolutely LOADS of equipment and books etc given to us by WVS (Worldwide Veterinary Services) including a brand new set of clippers which have already been put to good use in this very hot weather!
We have also had an excellent microscope donated by a UK veterinary practice and an Xray machine donated by another vet in the UK but we are still trying to work out how/if we will be able to get the latter over here!
Local people and businesses have also been very supportive, Abi Travel have provided a much needed airconditioning unit and had it installed. We have also had a fridge donated and a business person here has provided the money for us to buy an opthalmoscope/otoscope.
Visitors to Kalkan from the UK have also been very helpful by couriering donated items over here from the UK.
So all in all we feel very fortunate and really do want to say thank you to EVERYONE that has helped in any way at all. Thank you.
