Whatever happened to our freedom of choice? Whether we want to smoke/fart/pick our nasal orifices or other amusing habits, I think we are all losing the plot here.
Big Brother is alive and well - all over the world! We have to accept it! (No way) Hey, have just had an idea - lets put a tax on all those who insist on pulling their homes behind them, that would raise more revenue than us "unhealthy lot" - badly delayed en route to Dalaman earlier this year, due to homes on wheels wanting to stop and admire the road surface, surrounding trees and shedding bits everywhere. And people moan about cigarette butts in the street!

Only noticed recently on Turkish TV that anyone smoking has their cigarette pixellated out! Even more ridiculous than the ban itself!

Smoking related illness's cost the NHS far more than any revenue raised from taxation !!

Sorry Misty...have to disagree.
In 2006/07 smokers paid UK taxes of Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£10bn (Excise Duty Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£8.1bn and VAT Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£1.9bn).
Studies (Oxford Uni.) suggest smoking related illnesses cost the NHS Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£5bn (used to be thought to be around Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£1.7bn) and smoking caused 18.6% of all UK deaths.
A clear case of smokers benefitting the UK economy financially and reducing the strain there would be on the elderly care services, cost to the NHS of age related conditions and the UK pension cost !!! And smokers are saving the tax payable by non-smokers....a clear social benefit !!

But the big question is how much of that Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£10bn reaches the NHS....my bet would be its siphoned off (like vehicle duty) and used to prop up all the costly failings of New Labour

make porky people smoke!!...it suppresses appetites and the weight would drop off them..more tax revenue from fags and our pavements would need less repairs and the savings would be immense
