Apparently it is not fake news.......there is a facebook thread on this and my post said exactly that......Turkish fake news and I don't believe a word..........however,a lot of locals with much better " on the ground " knowledge than me, say that it is definetly on the cards and is not fake news........surely the powers that be can find other stunning locations for development.......turkey is a very large country after all.

My first thought was whether this was connected with the government's work in attracting more fundamental Muslim tourists from the Middle East - I believe there are already hotels in the area with separate pools for men and women intended for this (growing) market. (If I correctly remember a TV programme last year, that is…)

Many years ago Patara was a thriving resort bigger than today ..it had it's own Saturday market selling all the tat. Manos,Intersun,Sunmed were among the Tourist companys that filled it up...even then talk was all about developing the area. That was until they found artefacts under several parts of the village(the road leading to the beach on the Left still has the holes dug by students of archaeology from Istanbul clearly visible. A small hotel/Pension  was being built on the hill above and when they dug down for footings it collapsed and revealed tombs, word was at the time from local people was the 2 German/Turk developers did a moonlight by boat with valuable finds. After this they pulled the plug on a lot of the tourism..licenses were denied for selling alcohol to many existing restaurants etc..New builds were turned down and the even then the golf course that was rumoured was squashed(kalkan developer ...I saw the plans)..I prefer Patara as it is today :(
Title: Turkish Economy
Post by: si18665 on January 14, 2018, 06:53:12 PM
Whether is a fake news or not, the fact is that the Turkish Lira has devalued, suggesting that the country economy has been experiencing headwind between fall in tourism, military coup and fall in the construction industry. Travelling from Bodrum to Tasucu, it appears already plenty of “destructive” construction, which has already irrevocably scarred much of the coast. Spain and some other EU countries are not doing better. As long as there are buyers, there is little hope that this policy is going to stop anytime soon.

Sadly none of this surprises me, countries are always looking for more tourists & Turkey is no different, most places capitulate to development despite ancient monuments, wildlife concerns etc.Lets hope the government sees sense but as we all know financial considerations invariably win in these situations.
