Title: KTLN
Post by: kalkan4eva on May 08, 2018, 07:07:58 PM
For those that may not have seen it, KTLN might lose its web host after the company who have looked after it for many years was bought out recently. I'm sure those of you more IT savvy than me - probably all of you - will be able to explain it better but the site might go offline shortly and it could be a while before its back up and running again. It would be a huge loss to all of us - although their Facebook page is unaffected and news items will be posted on there if the worse comes to the worst.
I, for one, will miss it hugely - not least for my live webcam fix - and I'm sure you will join with me in hoping if it goes offline, it will come back quickly. In the meantime, we owe huge thanks to John Fed who is effectively KTLN and provides all the fabulous factual content completely free and in his own time.
I'm now getting more webcam fixes than usual and probably more than is normal - almost borderline obsessive to be fair. Also, if you want money off CIP Lounge, download and print the voucher now, just in case.

Agree - will be sorely missed and big thanks to John Fed who gives up his time to do this and present a factual and impartial view of Kalkan.

Do we have any web hosts reading these posts that can step in and save the day?

Web hosts cost money.

It's not the charitable approach of the host that seems to be the problem, but the support of the functions the website itself.

Some web hosts, can't really be a*s*d to cater for the website's needs and want an easy, or corporately expensive, life.

I reckon John fed and his webmaster are having issues with transferring from the old hosts application support, to the new one that requires either different protocols, or no support at all.

There's plenty of them out there, some excellent right down to just plain awful.  Finding the right one at the right price, with the right support and bandwidth is the headache.  Then there is the issue of making the necessary changes to the website for the new web host - not always as straightforward as it seems - it can be easy or a nightmare.

I'm not sure that the webmaster needs help, but it would need competent help (anyone know about HTML5 and CSS, for example?) and more essentially, money!

I am sure that if John fed needs help, all he needs do is ask.
