Aubergine restaurant
« on: May 15, 2013, 09:02:33 PM »
Just had a beautiful meal at Aubergine-top quality as usual.   Music fantastic-great atmosphere.  Considering its in the harbour the prices are not much different from elsewhere, and the service was great.  Well done  Aubergine .

Have to agree with you Tuttifrutti Aubergine is definitely one of our favourites.  when you take into consideration the setting, service, quality of food in my opinion it's worth the extra couple of quid per head.  And after eating we love to relax on the large comfy sofas enjoying a drink just watching the world go by.  Counting the days until we are back.

Yes, definitely agree with you both - Aubergine certainly stands the test of time. It has a unique combination of location, an outlook you never tire of, service and food - all are important to make a great restaurant that people want to return to again and again. The prices are usually about the same as Trio and last summer they were even cheaper than Doy Doy. I'm glad they're still delighting people this season. Like Charlie, can't wait to be back - a couple of weeks for us!

Yes Charlie, have to agree with you about relaxing on the large comfy sofas after eating.  Have you tried the brunch menu?  It's really good value and there are a lot of choices! In fact I am sitting on the sofa right now and just about to eat. The sun is shining and the wine is good- hope I'm making you jealous.

Hmmmm maybe we should give it a second try then because on our 1st visit to Kalkan we saved our Saturday night to go to Aubergine as it seemed to be the place to go and were very disappointed both with the food and service, needless to say we have never been back. maybe we just had a one off bad experience but with lots of other lovely places to choose from it tends to put you off - intersted to know if anyone else has felt the same.

Last time we ate there there was a woman encouraging cats & dogs to come to her table and then fed them from her hand. The waiters seemed to think this was acceptable behaviour. I'm afraid I don't so haven't been back.

I also don't think the food is anything special.

Just my opinion.

Tuttifrutti yes you are making me very jealous, hope you had a lovely brunch! We have had many meals in Aubergine over many years I must say it is the one place I always look forward to returning to.  Any visit to Kalkan just would not be complete without at least one meal in Aubergine.  Even if not eating there it is our favourite place to have a drink after dinner so if you are there again in July I may bump into you, if not there's always September and October! Can't get enough of the place.

I also have only been to Aubergine once and was very impressed. I thought you could get nicer meals for less money elsewhere. It was a few years back now, so maybe things have changed since then.
