sorry Alshepuk, replied to your other thread on this.
We went earlier in the season, but not when we were back in October. You would see his "Chops" VW Camper around town quite a bit in June/July but not at all later in the season, so not sure if it is still in existence - shame if it's gone, we really loved it.
I suggest you ask around in Kalkan. Adda Tours had loads of their leaflets last year and when we went we were collected both times in an Adda vehicle, so perhaps they would be a good place to enquire.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

It was open until the end of last season and Ismail plans to open it again this season, like most places just closed for the winter months.

After all the good comments about this venue we went to chops 2 weeks ago on a Tuesday evening for lamb night, what a disaster and total dissapointment.
There were 6 of us and we had all gone on my reccomendation. We found that they were pouring our wine into our glasses right up to the top with every sip we took (obviously to make us buy more Angora @ 26tkl) the meze were nothing special but the lamb when it arrived looked "and tasted" like something you would not feed your dog. They tried to tell us that this was their special Lamb that was cooked in the clay oven etc but you could just see it had been chopped up and warmed through.
As for the toilets I just won't say any more details about.
We couldnt wait to leave and asked for transport as soon as possible but had to wait till the other diners were ready (not far behind us)
A thoroughly bad experience that will not be repeated.

Interesting comments. I speak from experience when I say that people should not get sucked into all this hype about slow cooked proteins particularly in the sealed pots. It's, on the whole, utter rubbish.

Can't agree more it obviously hasn't improved from last year. But as you say once you are there it's difficult to leave if you go with their transport

That's a pity. We were looking to go up to Islamlar one night, to get away from the heat. Is there anywhere else that someone could recommend?
Thanks

I've tried Bodamyatepe, Hüseyin's, Değirmen and Cıftlık (in that order going up the hill) - all have lovely freshly grilled trout and fantastic chips, plus the goat's cheese grilled with chilli.

Roxie, Mahmut's Trout Farm have a lamb tandir night once a week - from memory I think it's on Tuesday.  Superb food (4 or 5 courses) and at a very reasonable cost.  It is lovely to spend an evening up in Islamlar especially in July/August when it's so hot in the village.  They also offer free transportation.  Give it a try.

We were at Kalkan Chops last year and had a great evening, the food was good (not anything wow) but we stayed until the small hours dancing and having a great time!

We went to Chops for lunch a couple of weeks ago and had lovely mezzes, followed by lamb, salad and chips. There were just the two of us, although a larger group was leaving as we arrived, but we whiled away a very pleasant hour and had good service. I've never been disappointed by this simple eatery but also have never been in the evening.

We have only had good food at Chops and I must say the mezes are quite a different selection, and delicious. The borek too was fresh & hand made not the usual frozen variety. It sounds like the few mentioned above are exceptions as most people we have spoken to sing it's praises. So if you haven't already give it a try.

We were at Chops last week, and before we had seen these recent postings, had come to the conclusion that the food was nothing like the original concept when it first opened. When first opening, the lamb was brought to the table on a hotplate with burner under, so several people could help themselves. It was delicious. Now it comes on a small plate with rice (which was nearly cold). I did not enjoy the meal, and will not be going back again. I thought the pricing was much inflated also.
