"Duty Free" Perfume
« on: May 02, 2008, 02:51:36 PM »
Hi
I hope to purchase some  Thierry Mugler "Angel" eau de parfum duty free on my next trip to Kalkan and was wondering if anyone can advise me if it is cheaper to purchase it from the UK airport Duty free shop or Dalaman?
Thanks

Sounds like a couple of footballers to me, are you sure it''s perfume?
Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

Not sure but you could try searching the web site of your departure airport and your airline, they usually have a section where you can check prices in the shop and onboard. Not sure if Dalaman airport has this on its website but maybe worth having a look though to be honest in recent years I''ve found duty free prices not to be such a great bargain as prices usually as good in Asda or some of the perfume shop chains.

Hi,
Bought my OH Dolce Gabbana ''The One'' at Gatwick last week. On return from Dalaman on Sunday it was 15 Euros more!!  I do think Dalaman Airport is very expensive.
                 Regards    Doug

Dalaman is ludicriously expensive, you will do much better on the way out buying anything you need at your UK departure airport and on the way back anywhere before you get to Dalaman.

beware of buying perfume /aftershave from street vendors/non specialist shops in turkey.it is often a poor imitation and will not be "smellable" after a few minutes..my other half is manager of a high street perfume chain and the prices are really not far behind duty free U.K prices if not comparable....i always smell nice ;D

Clooneyrooney, I''ve stopped buying my perfume dutyfree as there doesn''t seem to be much sving on it these days unless you''re travelling from the US. I''ve discovered a great website www.fragrancedirect.com where every single perfume they sell is discounted and they have a huge range and some very generous discounts. Delivery costs a couple of quid and usually only takes a couple of days - I don''t buy perfume any other way now
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thanks for that info Kalkan4eva. However I have checked their prices for some of my favourite perfumes but unfortunately they are more expensive before p&p than the duty free shop at BAA airports.

For anyone travelling through a BAA airport (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Southampton, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen) thought you might be interested to know that there are printable vouchers on their website to save money at their duty free shops.
£5.00 off when you spend £50 for more
£10.00 off when you spend £100.00 or more
£15.00 off when you spend £150.00 or more
£20.00 off when you spend £200.00 or more
£25.00 off when you spend £250.00 or more
The vouchers are valid until 30th June ''08.

The web address is www.worlddutyfree.com.
Happy shopping!!

Hi
Thanks for the information for the  website, for the World duty free vouchers.
I have printed some for myself and family.
We are arriving in Kalkan on 30th June from Rhodes.  We are going to Kefalonia for our daughters wedding and planning on coming across from Rhodes to Fethiye. I will post our travel experience.
We have a small duplex apartment in Kalamar Bay, which we have had for a few years. We cannot wait to get back to Turkey, we leave on the 9th June so will miss the meetings but will return in early September. We appreciate the Enjoy Kalkan forum and find it very informative (Happy 1st Birthday)

I''ve only really bought perfume at the airport when i received a voucher at Manchester airport last year...a whopping £20 off when you spent £60 or more in ''duty free''!
Fortunately the perfume i wanted was £60 or more, so i saved a tidy sum in the end.

The cheapest and most favourite way i''ve found to buy perfumes from is ebay...have to look at feedback, ensure it states its the real deal in the write up and offers returns.
I''ve bought some at half the store prices and stocked up on my favourites...some in gift sets for half price too!  :D
