(out of town) Restaurant review
« on: May 13, 2015, 04:46:06 PM »
We ( me & oh ) love Kalkans restaurants & think they offer a great standard & value for money.

For lunch our fav's tend to be Fener & Coriander, albeit, there are plenty of other places to go.

We got to thinking as to wether any of the 'out of town' restaurants offer the same great standard & value.

So we decided to try just 2.....not on the same day though !!!

The review bit....

The first one we tried is a Very Turkish restaurant, full of Turkish men, it was lucky the wife had not bothered to shave that morning so we blended in quite well, albeit, I think her pink lipstick was a bit of a giveaway !!!(we were the only 2 non-Turks in there) in Akbel called 'Ayhan'in'. We had been told by an xpat friend of ours that they served a dish called 'Izgara' . So up to Akbel we drove a couple of afternoons ago looking forward to our lunch but not really knowing what to expect. We ordered 2 'Izgara's & a large bottle of water. The food was served to our table in what seemsed seconds, albeit, it must of been a couple of mins. The meal ( cos that's what it was, a 'Meal' I could not eat all mine, honest

This is a good idea Onelove but is your report finished or is it like those TV series that leave you on tenterhooks waiting for the next installment?  ☺

.....don't know what happened, after I posted my post, the 2nd half of it did not appear :-((

Anyway here I go....Again !!!

....honest. the meal is basically chicken ( cut off what we would call a doner spit ) and lots of it, served on a bed of rice with salad + as much bread as you can eat.....it was fab, we will def be back.

The fun bit......Guess how much the 2 meals came to ???

Today we decided to try a restaurant that most of you will of seen but not tried. You go through the lights (D400) at the top of town, turn right as if your heading for Dalaman, the restaurant is there straight away on the left it's called 'aciktim köfte'

The menu is not very big but plenty to keep you interested for lunchtime.

The review bit.....

We both ordered the grilled chicken....2 Pieces of grilled chicken served on lovely flat bread, half a grilled tom, half a grilled onion, a handful of homemade chips & a grilled green pepper. We also ordered the 'Tahini' salad ( Mmmm, to die for )  it's a mixture of egg, onions, toms, herbs, white beans, olive oil & a white sauce, we also ordered an extra side of flat bread ( far to much food, we did not even touch the extra flat bread ) We had a large bottle of water & 1 can of coke. It was all delish, even better than the meal in Akbel, albeit, they were both great.

The fun bit.......Guess how much the 2 meals came to ???.

I will give you a clue......we are talking Fantastic value for money ?

Besides anything else it's just great to get ( a little ) out of Kalkan ( mix with the locals, & to eat where they eat - Akbel - So I say try both of them you won't be disappointed.

The member who guesses closest the aggregrate cost of both meals is the winner.....What does the winner get........Nothing, it's the taking part that's important, just like the English football team !!!!

Akbel is great for 'proper' turkish food and at local prices. Even getting the dolmus up there is worth it.

:) love this alternative guide to the culinary delights of Kalkan (and beyond)! I'll guess 35 lira.  The prize must be worth winning surely.

Seeing as trout in Islamlar is 10tL I'd say 27TL for both. Is the one on the D400 the one with a dummy sultan sat by the road?

No Pompeyalbie. If you were sat at the lights at the top town it's just through the lights on your left.

There are two nice out of town restaurants in Kinik, in the main square. The one does the most amazing profiteroles too. Very reasonably priced.

Wow onelove, that's amazing value for money! Another couple there to add to the list. I think I must have missed this thread when you first posted. I would definitely not have got the answer right  :) glad I hadn't guessed or I would have bitten my nails down to the quick waiting for the answer  :D  >:D >:D
