Henna tattoo - advice wanted
« on: August 20, 2015, 06:07:01 PM »
Hi all, anyone ever had a henna tattoo from the nice man who has his stall on the route to town ( used to be opp moonlight bar, but is further up now). Every time I visit Kalkan I say I would like to have one done and am tempted on my next visit next week, however there was a warning about reactions to henna on GMB the other morning so now not so sure, any advice if anyone has had one please.

The reaction they featured on GMB was in relation to black henna which has some of the same chemicals as hair dyes...which you might be aware would need to be patch-tested before being applied.
I think the Henna guy you are talking about uses real henna - all natural and unlikely to give you any problems. You could always ask for a small patch test - usually behind your ear - and wait for 24hrs before going for the full works.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Hi chrissy1 , my son had a black henna tattoo ( not in kalkan) and is now very allergic to loads of things including all hair dye ,which is not great as he was a hairdresser. Natural red henna is ok as kalkan4eva says but is it worth the risk?

I had one done (after our evening meal!!!)! 2 years ago whilst in Kalkan - on the way out of town so I think it was possibly the same guy.  I had no reaction but it didn't last for long at all (3 days at the most) and the standing joke between us that it was in fact Road Tar!!!
Lou :)

Alcohol based sun protection (p20, Ultrasun etc) will get rid of a henna tattoo at the first attempt.
