What is Kalkan like in November?
« on: September 08, 2008, 11:49:20 PM »
Just wondered what Kalkan is like at the beginning of November as we have never been at that time of year and are thinking of going over for the first week.  Does anyone know what restaurants and bars will be open?  Is it a bit like a ghost town out of season?  What sort of weather can we expect and is it still warm enough to swim (in a pool)  What time is sunset?  Will the building works be in full swing after the end of October?   Do they stop working at night?  Any info would be useful - Cheers Kalkanbelle

Hi kalkanbelle, 95% of the restaurants and bars will be closed.
Therearen''t many people around out of season, even most of the Turks leave
It will have rained heavily by November and cool to cold at night, you will need some heating
 Too cold for the pool,
And yes kalkan becomes one big building site, with huge lorries and digging machines everywhere piling into the rock, and pouring cement all over the place which is a bit noisy.
No they don''t always stop at night, which again can be a bit noisy
Not a great deal to do unless you are keen on walking, or looking at damage caused by storms.
You''ll need a sturdy pair of shoes as those roads that don''t get washed away tend to be full of mud and storm debris.
The best thing about kalkan in winter is the tremendous storms and heavy rain
Save Kisiltas- ban the D400

Thanks Hel66 for your honest reply -   I think we will give Kalkan a miss until next season and would be better off at home getting cosy by the fire!  I know some people have painted a different picture of what Kalkan is like in winter but I think your view is more realistic.  We do like a bit of peace and quiet to be able to relax and have a choice of where to eat in the evening and it doesn''t sound as though Kalkan can deliver this after October - the weather sounds a bit iffy too! Cheers kalkanbelle
